“杂志还有未来吗?”在如今新媒体泛滥的时代,传统媒体人都会有着这样的疑问。或许,这个问题更是符合中国特色,中国主流杂志的生存几乎依赖于广告、发行等多种因素。在本期封面专题中,我们向大家推荐100本小众杂志,内容覆盖时装、生活方式、艺术设计以及人文精神——不少年刊或半年刊完全没有广告支持,也没有大规模的发行渠道,只在一些小型独立书店销售。这些杂志是一种标杆——不用刻意迎合、不需迫切转型。这些勇敢的杂志创办人精神,也值得我们借鉴。

The Bund Magazine (it’s like the New York Times Magazine for Shanghai) published this today, and we were initially stoked and honoured to be on the front cover and one of the 100 Indie mags that they featured, but later on realized the sad news that this was to be their last print issue; they are closing down their print department and moving to digital in 2016. It is a great tragedy and irony because their cover story began with this question: ““Is there a future for magazines?”

A rough translation of the first paragraph goes like this:

‘“Is there a future for magazines?” In this age of new media, people working in traditional media would ask this question. Maybe this question Is more suited to circumstances in China, because China’s mainstream magazines depend solely on advertising and distribution. In our cover story, we’d like to recommend 100 independent magazines, from fashion to lifestyle to art and design to culture. Most of them are annual or biannual magazines and have completely no ads, and no large scale distribution channels, they are just sold in small independent bookstores. These magazines are a type of benchmark — no need to deliberately cater (to audiences) or be forced to change. It is worth drawing lessons from the brave spirit of these magazine publishers.’
